Three Men Face Trial Over Alleged Theft of Seven Goats in Ekiti
Three men were on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of seven goats valued at N700,000.
The defendants, Olarewaju Segun, 27; Abubakar Yinusa, 28; and Farouk Aliu, 28, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and receiving stolen property.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the alleged offences occurred on Oct. 11, at about 11 a.m., at Abuja Quarters along NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti.
Adeniyi alleged that Segun stole the seven goats belonging to Mrs Adebomojo Ifeoluwa.
He further alleged that Yinusa and Aliu received the animals from Segun, knowing that they were stolen.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 302(1) and 343(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He requested an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant them bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Dolamu Babalogbon, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety each in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Nov. 19 for hearing.
