Miner jailed 18 months for assault, throwing fireworks in mosque
A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 19-year-old miner, Abdullateef Jibrin, to 18 months’ imprisonment for assault and causing public nuisance by throwing a firework into a mosque during prayers.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was also given an option of N80,000 fine by the magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati.
Pati further ordered him to pay N20,000 compensation to the complainant within seven days.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the incident was reported on Sept. 14 at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by Malam Abubakar Ibrahim.
Gokwat said Jibrin attacked Ibrahim and threw a knockout firework into the mosque while worshippers were praying.
