Lagos to Divert Traffic on Independence Bridge for Repairs
The Lagos State Government says traffic will be diverted on Independence Bridge, Lagos Island, as urgent asphalt repairs begin on Friday night.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced this in a statement on Wednesday.
Osiyemi said the repair works would continue throughout Saturday and Sunday, covering both inbound and outbound lanes of the bridge.
He said traffic management measures would be implemented to minimise disruptions and ensure motorists could access their destinations during the exercise.
According to him, sections of the bridge will be partially closed one at a time, while a lane will remain open to allow vehicles to pass.
The commissioner advised motorists to plan their journeys and consider alternative routes to avoid delays during the repair period.
He added that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage traffic and reduce inconvenience.
Osiyemi urged motorists to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the exercise.
