INEC declares Adeleke winner of Osun governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Gov. Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party winner of the Aug. 15 Osun governorship election.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, announced the result on Sunday after collating the results from the 30 local government areas of the state.

Ogunwole said 1,005,800 votes were cast during the election, with 985,079 votes declared valid and 20,721 rejected.

He said Adeleke secured the highest number of valid votes and therefore satisfied the legal requirements to be declared winner.

“I, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2026 Osun governorship election held on Aug. 15,” he said.

He declared Adeleke winner, having satisfied the requirements of the law.

The NAN reports that Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, finished second with 444,815 votes.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 local government areas.

The victory gives Adeleke another four-year mandate to govern the state.

He is expected to be sworn in for another term on Nov. 27.
