All 154 Students Discharged After Drug Reaction in Katsina

All 154 students affected by an adverse drug reaction at Government Science Secondary School, Batagarawa, Katsina State, have recovered and been discharged from hospital, the police have said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, adding that no death was recorded in the incident.

The incident occurred on Oct. 26 after students reportedly developed adverse reactions following the administration of Praziquantel tablets, used in the treatment of bilharzia.

According to the statement, the affected students were promptly evacuated to various hospital facilities for medical attention.

It said the remaining 25 students, who had been retained in hospital for further observation and treatment, had also been discharged.

The police spokesman added that all the affected students were in good health and had reunited with their families and schoolmates.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ali Umar Fage, commended members of the public for their cooperation and calmness throughout the incident.

Fage urged residents to refrain from spreading unverified information and rumours, stressing the importance of relying on credible sources for updates.

He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The students were given Praziquantel tablets by the school authorities as part of treatment for bilharzia.
