A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, in a correctional centre for allegedly severing her boyfriend’s manhood.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged victim was identified as Ashiru Sani.
Idris, a resident of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing two charges of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
Prosecution Counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on July 27 at Badawa Quarters in Kano.
She said the Badawa Police Division received a report from the management of Durbar Hotel, Badawa, at about 12:50 p.m. on the same day, alleging that Idris had attacked her boyfriend with a sharp knife.
The prosecutor told the court that the incident occurred earlier at about 11 a.m., when the defendant allegedly attacked Sani after discovering that he intended to marry another woman.
According to Sani-Buhari, the victim was immediately taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital in Kano for medical attention.
Idris pleaded guilty to both charges.
The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case until Sept. 9 for further mention.
