Carry over: Kano Emirate debunks viral video on Emir Sanusi

The Kano Emirate has dismissed a viral social media video claiming that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II failed a course in his ongoing Law studies at Northwest University, Kano.

The video, which circulated widely on social media platforms on Sunday, alleged that the Emir had a carry-over in one of his courses.

Sanusi is currently enrolled as a 200-level undergraduate in the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme, specialising in Common Law and Sharia, at the university.

Muhammad Ado, Secretary to the Emir, described the claim as false, saying the Emir is only one point away from achieving a first-class grade based on the council’s records.

“We attended a programme organised by the Law Students of the university on Saturday, where a student recorded the video. But the claim is not true.

“According to our calculations, the Emir needs only one more point to attain a first class,” Ado said.

He added that former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, attended the programme as a visiting lecturer.

A student of the university, Ibrahim Abubakar-Danmasani, also dismissed the claim, saying examinations had not commenced at the institution.

He said the examinations were scheduled to begin on Monday.

Sources within the university equally corroborated the Emirate Council’s position, describing the viral video as false.

The sources alleged that the video was produced by some youths as an act of mischief.
