Tinubu Orders EFCC to Unfreeze Osun Government Accounts Ahead of Poll

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately return to court to vacate the order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government.

The President said the action, coming just days before the Aug. 15 Osun governorship election, could create the impression that federal agencies were being used to influence the electoral process.

Tinubu, while reaffirming the EFCC’s independence in carrying out its anti-corruption mandate, stressed that the commission’s operations should not undermine public confidence in the credibility and fairness of the forthcoming election.

He therefore instructed the anti-graft agency to discontinue the case against the Osun State Government and take the necessary legal steps to have the court lift the freezing order.

The directive comes amid heightened political tension following the EFCC’s decision to freeze the state’s accounts as part of an ongoing investigation.
