Adeleke Slams EFCC Over Alleged Freeze on Osun Government Account

Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of unlawfully freezing the state government’s bank account, describing the action as a violation of constitutional principles and due process.
Speaking at a news conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, Adeleke said the state government was informed of the development through a letter from its banker, which conveyed an instruction from the EFCC to place a freeze on the account.
According to the governor, the commission issued the directive without obtaining a court order.
He condemned the action, insisting that democratic governance must be guided by the rule of law and due process.
Adeleke argued that federal agencies should not infringe on the constitutional rights of state governments, warning that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s democratic system if left unchecked.
The governor called on the Chairman of the EFCC to publicly explain the reasons behind the alleged freezing of the account and provide evidence to justify the commission’s action.
He added that the Osun State Attorney-General had been directed to institute legal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Osogbo to challenge the EFCC’s decision.
